Some ingredients have a story worth telling.

Every August, the Scottish Highlands turn purple. Heather blankets the moorlands, hillsides and glens in a wash of pink and violet - one of the most recognisable sights of a Highland summer, and one that passes quickly.

It's also the ingredient behind one of our most popular ranges - and with the flowers in full bloom, there's no better time to talk about it.

Heather - or Calluna vulgaris - is a perennial woody shrub that thrives in wild Scottish moorlands. It flowers in late summer, producing the fragrant purple and pink blooms that colour the Highland landscape in August and September.

The hills surrounding Fort William are covered in it - it's one of those ingredients that's been part of the Scottish landscape for centuries, long before it found its way into skincare.

Heather has been part of Scottish life for centuries - as food for Highland sheep and deer, as the source of the highly prized heather honey produced when beehives are moved to heathland in late summer, and as an ingredient in gruit - the old herb mixture used to flavour ale long before hops.

In skincare, it is valued for its soothing and calming properties. It's a gentle, skin-kind ingredient that works well across a range of products - from hand washes and body washes to soaps and creams.

Wild nettle is one of Scotland's most abundant plants - and in skincare, one of its most useful. Rich in vitamins and minerals, it's known for its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, making it particularly well suited to sensitive or easily irritated skin. It helps calm redness and supports the skin's natural balance.

Together, they make a pairing that feels distinctly Scottish - two plants that thrive side by side on the same hillsides, brought together in a range that carries the Highlands into your everyday routine.
